Hand-colourized photographs

Hand-coloured photographs originated in the early days of photography, in the 19th century, when colour did not yet exist within the image and had to be added by hand. Today, I return to this process as an aesthetic gesture rather than a technical need. Working with black and white photographs, I print and hand-paint each image, creating soft universes where colour emerges as memory, imagination and quiet intervention.
